DUDE, WHERE’S OUR CARPARK?
CATHERINE KING MP
Recently released evidence through Senate Estimates has confirmed what many Australians already know – that the Morrison Government’s much hyped Commuter Carpark Program is another dud promise from a Government which cares more about announcements than actual infrastructure delivery.

Ahead of the 2019 election, the Prime Minister promised 67 commuter carparks around Australia to “get thousands of cars off the roads and get people home sooner and safer.”

Of these 67 promised carparks, only four projects are actually under construction.

This is despite almost every single one of these projects having been forecast to begin construction through the 2019/20 financial year.

As Australians head back to the office and are left searching for a carpark outside their local train station, the one person they have to blame is the Prime Minister.

This is the latest infrastructure fail from a government which averages an infrastructure underspend of $1.2 billion each year and last year spent $572m less than they promised on congestion-busting projects alone.

You can’t park a car on a press release – delivery is all that matters. And when it comes to delivery, the Morrison Government is failing.
